Im Rahmen einer feierlichen Jubilarveranstaltung durften wir zahlreiche langjährige Mitarbeitende für ihre Treue und ihr Engagement ehren. Insgesamt 24 Jubilarinnen und Jubilare wurden in der „Alten Mühle“ in festlichem Ambiente gewürdigt.

Bei einem gemeinsamen Abendessen nutzten wir die Gelegenheit, uns persönlich für den langjährigen Einsatz und die enge Verbundenheit mit WALDRICH COBURG zu bedanken. Mit dem neuen Format der Jubilarfeier wollen wir unsere Wertschätzung in einem neuen Rahmen zum Ausdruck bringen.

This year again, 30 colleagues took part in the Neue Presse company run in Bad Rodach.

Large participation in popular running event

More than 2,000 runners took part in this well-loved event. Highly motivated, full of fun, and in my opinion, quite speedy—we all made it to the finish line together. At the aftershow party, we continued the celebration with pizza and cool drinks. Every first-time runner received a brand-new WALDRICH COBURG running shirt and a food voucher for the evening. We had a great time together and thoroughly enjoyed both the race and the evening with our colleagues and the other running teams.

At the invitation of Klaus Bühring, member of the Transport Committee of the Coburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and responsible for commercial shipping, Dr. Jonas Geissler (CSU), member of the Bundestag, visited WALDRICH COBURG again. Key topics were the necessary reduction in bureaucracy and faster approval procedures in the area of special transports.

Klaus Bühring drew a positive conclusion: “We have improved in terms of approvals and are currently at 6 to 8 weeks, compared to the approval period of 12 to 16 weeks in the summer. That’s still not great, but we’re on the right track.” For WALDRICH COBURG, the German seaports are extremely important for the transportation of large machine tools. Transport routes to Antwerp or Rotterdam would entail considerable additional costs. Possible ports in Italy would require difficult overwidth transportation via the Brenner Pass.

Fluctuating costs in transportation and logistics

In view of the increased costs, it was important for Dr. Jonas Geissler to know to what extent WALDRICH COBURG was affected by the increase in toll charges and energy costs as well as fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate.

Transportation and logistics costs are subject to strong fluctuations due to the long duration of machine projects, from the initial preliminary calculation to the final shipment. Energy price increases, rising material costs and exchange rate fluctuations would make the current price calculations for machines even more difficult.

In an interview with Dr. Jonas Geissler on the subject of the US dollar, Klaus Bühring added that WALDRICH COBURG is currently not receiving many inquiries and orders from the USA: “There is also an increasing shortage of skilled workers in America who can operate the machines. The machines are not being used to capacity. This is not due to the order situation but, as in Germany, to the lack of skilled workers.”

More courage and decisiveness

At the end of the discussion, Dr. Jonas Geissler called for more courage and decisiveness. “Especially in these times, we need a company that is courageous,” said Geissler during the company visit. Dr. Jonas Geissler plans to visit the company again in spring. In addition to the factory tour, there will be discussions with the works council and employees. “To further shorten approval times for transportation, reduce bureaucracy and give people more trust and security in politics again. These are our common goals.” A cross-party round table with transport experts would be a first step in this direction.

WALDRICH COBURG can look back on a very successful exhibition appearance at the China International Import Expo (CIIE). The highlight of the exhibition was the signing of a cooperation agreement with SUMEC and Sinomach. The ceremony was broadcast on Chinese television, CCTV1. This public signing generated nationwide publicity and strengthened WALDRICH COBURG’s position in China.

Christian Wassermann’s presentation to a specialist audience attracted particular attention. More than 280 spectators were present on site and in the livestream. Wassermann presented the innovative “TAURUS Universe” and offered interested parties valuable insights into the new developments from WALDRICH COBURG.

In a festive ceremony, WALDRICH COBURG used the exhibition to seal the new purchase agreements with its long-standing customer Qinchuan Machine Tool & Tools for a further TAURUS 25 and WayGrind. This not only strengthened existing business partnerships, but also paved the way for future business relationships.

Our BJO team from WALDRICH COBURG Beijing was personally present at CIIE together with Christian Wassermann (Area Sales Manager Asia-Pacific) and exhibited at the booth of SUMEC, a leading import partner for Chinese companies looking to purchase high-quality machines from Germany. SUMEC not only offers financing options, but also supports project management and acts as a tendering agency for tendering procedures.

SUMEC is part of Sinomach.

Sinomach, also known as China National Machinery Industry Corporation, is a state-owned enterprise in China. It is one of the largest companies in the country’s engineering industry and plays an important role in various sectors such as mechanical engineering, electronics, construction machinery, vehicles and more. Sinomach is active in numerous areas, including research, development, production and international trading activities.

The company is part of the Central Administration for State-Owned Assets of the People’s Republic of China (SASAC). It has a wide range of subsidiaries and holdings that focus on various industries. Sinomach plays an important role in the implementation of government policies, particularly in connection with technological innovation and the promotion of key industries.

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is an annual exhibition in Shanghai, China.

It was first launched in 2018 to offer foreign companies a platform to enter the Chinese market. The CIIE focuses on the import of goods and services. Companies from all over the world take the opportunity to present their products to a Chinese audience. The exhibition plays an important role in China’s efforts to open up its economy and promote international trade.

In September, our new apprentices started their apprenticeship as electronics technicians, IT specialists and cutting machine operators or industrial mechanics with us, including two dual students.

Managing Director Uwe Herold officially welcomed them on their first day and gave them a few important words to take with them:

“We have a very good apprenticeship at WALDRICH COBURG, but an important point for me is that you also have a lot of fun in your future profession. […] Today [bei der Ausbildung] apprenticeship is more about individuality. Our aim is to support everyone in their apprenticeship in such a way that their strengths become clear. Today is the start of your career planning. […] It is important that you act as a team, then you will be successful.”

The EMO was held under the guiding themes of networking and sustainability. For one week, WALDRICH COBURG presented the almost unlimited variety of its medium-sized portfolio of portal milling machines with the TAURUS Universum in Hall 13 at Stand B29 in Hanover. In doing so, WALDRICH COBURG set itself apart from the competition: “No one has the topic of large machines so prominently as a leading theme,” Uwe Herold points out the focus.

More speed, more power, more individuality

For the Coburg-based company, the TAURUS family is a mainstay in the company’s more than 100-year history. With speeds up to 30,000 rpm, power up to 70 kW and torque up to max. 1,500 Nm, the WALDRICH COBURG machines offer an increased performance spectrum and thus even more possibilities for the customers’ production processes.

With a variety of gantry and table sizes, as well as the ability to configure different milling units, the company offers customers a tailored and unique combination of flexibility, modularity and maximum precision. An extensive spindle selection also covers a wide range of machining options for both steel and cast iron cutting as well as high speed cutting.

Thorsten Steinle, CCO sees this as an important step forward: “A new scalable machine system enables expanded performance and thus increasing customer benefits. The increased performance parameters guarantee customers greater flexibility as far as workpiece machining is concerned.”

The 2 series TAURUS and TAURUS Gemini are thus used to create individual machine concepts that are precisely adapted to the needs of the customer. The new concept that WALDRICH COBURG successfully presented at EMO is as individual as the machines themselves.

More customer benefits through networking

New networking options open up new areas of business. The latest technology is used to provide customers with a modern, effective and optionally digitally controlled manufacturing process. Thus, the machines are equipped with the latest controls, more precisely the TNC 7 from Heidenhain and the SINUMERIK ONE from Siemens. They also have UPC/UA and Umati interfaces.

Standardized interfaces make it possible to integrate WALDRICH COBURG machines into existing production lines and to interlink several machines from different manufacturers. “This gives customers the option of integrating a high-performance machine tool from our company into an existing production line at any time in order to improve their own production process,” says Thorsten Steinle, pleased with the growing approaches to cooperation with customers.

A high priority is given to service. The further development of digital services, together with machine innovations, will bring significant added value in the future.

More sustainability

Responsibility towards the environment and the topic of sustainability have a high priority. That is why the company has firmly anchored this issue in its corporate values.

The products reflect this with their long service life, through sustainable service and energy efficiency. The company pays attention to the use of recyclable materials such as cast iron and steel in manufacturing. In addition, plastic parts are largely dispensed with. The auxiliary units used to operate the machines have a shutdown mode and only run at the required power when needed. Customers are thus offered high-quality and sustainable products. A retrofit creates the possibility for a 2nd machine life. To conserve resources, it is important to further improve the recycling of materials.

For Managing Director Uwe Herold, sustainability is a core issue: “We have invested a lot in the development of our products and the site for this purpose. The next step is to focus on the recyclability of our product and the materials used in the machining process.”

“Despite fewer visitors overall and the reduction in exhibitor space in the halls, WALDRICH COBURG was able to score points with many domestic and international guests,” says a satisfied Thorsten Steinle.

It will be important to take up the new leading themes of the machine tool industry more strongly and to make them visible through appropriate innovation.
